3) A LIL ENCOURAGEMENT FOR Y’ALL ❤️

One last mini reflection I thought I’d share (for those who are so patiently reading this till the end!):

Last week I (Grace) was really struck by how Jesus himself, the Son of God, cried out as he was dying on the cross:

“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

(Matthew 27:46)

Like… this was JESUS. The SON OF GOD. The one who was ONE with God. ?!??

With our recent episodes on depression and grief, it just hit me in a new way how true it was that Jesus was “acquainted with grief.” (Isaiah 53:3)

I realized we can be so focused on the divine nature of Jesus that we forget… he was ALSO fully human.

And in this moment, he was demonstrating that to be fully human is also to at times be in such deep agony and pain… that even though intellectually you KNOW God is with you, it’s still very real and part of being human to FEEL abandoned when you’re suffering.

If even JESUS - the SON OF GOD - felt like this, and cried out to God in his pain… how much MORE valid is it for us to do the same?

But that’s not all…

This morning, I happened to come across Psalm 22… and my eyes got realll wide when I read:

“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning?”

(Psalm 22:1)

I had never made the connection before… that on the cross, Jesus was quoting David in the Psalms, who had ALSO been going through really hard, painful, seemingly hopeless circumstances of being mocked and persecuted.

It just showed me even more that:

  1. It’s not just okay, but it’s GOOD to pour out our real, raw, honest, UNFILTERED emotions to God. David, Job, Jesus, and so many others modeled this for us.

There is so much power and healing in honestly lamenting to God.

  2. God’s Word is both a weapon for spiritual battle, AND also a comforting tool we can use to express our inexpressible emotions.

Scripture tells us the TRUTH of who God is and who we are, AND it reminds us of the REALITY of what it means to be human - and what to do in our moments of weakness:

We hold onto the stories and words of our ancestors in faith… to do as they did. Lament as they did. Believe, in spite of everything, as they did. Stay close to God despite our questions and pain, as they did.

Because there truly is nothing else in this world that can offer what only God can:

GOD is our Comforter. Healer. Refuge.
GOD is our Father. Foundation. Friend.
GOD is close to us, even when we feel far.
GOD is faithful to us, even when we stray.

GOD accepts you, embraces you, and is with you in all of it.

So keep pressing on - and pressing IN to his presence.

Because it’s only when we press IN to God’s presence - that we allow him to help and lead us, sustain and strengthen us, and refine and mold us to come out even stronger on the other side.

Hope this little tidbit encouraged you today!

As we’ve been mentioning in our episodes, we’re planning on sending out more resources, opportunities, and other special things for you all!

Our hope and prayer is to continue empowering you in pursuing the full, free, faith-fueled life God has created you to live!!

Much more to come…

Have a blessed rest of your week, friends 🙂

❤️
